Yanni Hufnagel Explores The College Basketball Coaching Landscape

From his early days in his hometown of Scarsdale, New York the basketball coach Yanni Hufnagel has seemed to be on a career path that destined him for success at the highest levels of the basketball community. The young Hufnagel would spend the majority of his days as a young person seeking to learn as much as possible about basketball coaching methods and plays, the Hufnagel family tell stories of the young Yanni Hufnagel using action figures to act out the plays he would research during his school days.

After acting as equipment manager for the Cornell University basketball team, Yanni Hufnagel set out to enter the professional ranks as a graduate assistant with the New Jersey Nets NBA franchise. As is often the case in the close knit basketball community the contacts made by Yanni Hufnagel over the course of his career at the Nets resulted in him being offered a new paid coaching assistant position at Oklahoma University, a position he held for two seasons and made his first waves as a specialist coach of some of the top NBA players, including Blake Griffin during his college career.

Yanni Hufnagel has moved between a number of different roles as a college basketball coach who has also been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades. In 2013 the experts at ESPN name-checked Yanni Hufnagel as one of the main reasons for the Vanderbilt Commodores rising to number 29 on the list of top recruiting classes in the nation for the year. A move to the west coast has proven a fertile coaching and recruiting ground for Yanni Hufnagel as he has worked at both the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Nevada as an assistant coach during seasons when both teams reached the NCAA playoffs.
